Google prévoit de mettre ses data-centers sur l’eau

Dans un brevet, les ingénieurs de Google exposent un système qui leur permettraient de stationner des bâteaux à 11 kilomètres des côtes et de les alimenter en électricité grâce à l’énergie produite par les vagues.
Les grandes sociétés Internet comme Google doivent gérer des parcs informatiques énormes (les rumeurs font état de 200 000 à 500 000 serveurs pour Google), très gourmands en énergie. Elles envisagent toutes des solutions radicales pour réduire ces coûts (en Sibérie pour Microsoft, dans une ancienne mine de charbon pour Sun)… Une récente étude a même montré qu’en 2020, les émissions carbones d’Internet seront plus importantes que celle du transport aérien.
Autre avantage pour Google : en situant ses data-center si loin des côtes, la société peut s’affranchir des taxes.
